Taqueria La Sabrosita

Today was a full day! I was joined by Jay for a much anticipated lunch taco spot! Jay is a long time friend and middle school pastor I've served with at Hope Community Church for years. Today we volunteered for cafeteria duty at Lufkin Middle and I told him I'd treat him to some tacos afterward! I think he would have served at the school without the lure of lunch with TacoMatt, but we'll never know ;)

It was a beautiful day! Perfect day for a taco truck, and this one I've been eyeballing for years. I go to the Apex Inspection Station next door and always see people at this truck that sits tucked into the side of the parking lot.

As we rolled up the menu was full of good looking items, but I know I'm here for one thing... TACOS!

The man that orders before us orders in Spanish so I can only make out one word, "prista", and I know he must be a regular. You don't just walk up and order the intestines! And so I didn't... still not there yet. But I'll get there!

Jay and I discussed and he decided to ride my wave and order the same exact tacos so we each got 4: Carnitas, Asada, Chorizo, and Barbacoa. (A YouTube taco enthusiast says his favorite taco in the world is barbacoa so I had to get one. I've never had one.)

All of the tacos were $3.50 to $4 each which seems like a great deal!

Now on to the tacos! They handed us one to-go container filled with 8 street tacos. We looked for shade and found a shady spot. Next to some building I thought was closed, but upon further review maybe was a Spanish-speaking law office or insurance?? Not sure, but they had two shady looking beat up office chairs in the shade.

Perfect for two dudes all in on the experience.

First taco we attacked was the Carnitas. Fun fact, we didn't really know what was what and found out at the end after talking with the food truck lady that we were wrong, hah!

Carnitas was a great way to kick it off. Good juicy tacos. Mild and simple but delish.

Then we ate the Barbacoa (which I thought was the asada). Yum! Another juicy taco with good flavoring and just the perfect amount of spice. That flavor contrasted well with the onion and cilantro and lime juice I squeezed over it.

Asada was next, which I thought was chorizo... Not bad, but it was basically ground beef. Probably my least favorite, but it was alright. I've said it before on another review, I need more ingredients, so with a street taco I need a good portion of onion and cilantro. It could've used more.

Lastly was the chorizo, which I thought was barbacoa! It was quite red, which makes sense, but never having barbacoa I was mistaken.

If you're still reading, this is where you roll your eyes and see how novice I am. True. But this is my fourth review... give me time, people!!

So all in all we both LOVED the experience. A food truck, beautiful weather, language barriers, and questionable seating. My kind of experience!

Overall I'm giving these tacos a 3.9. A lot to do with the total experience. Barbacoa on its own would maybe be a 4.1 or so.
